The Promise of Youth | 5 -7 April | Uganda  

Youth Business International, in partnership with our member Enterprise Uganda and VSO, are hosting ‘The Promise of Youth’ in Kampala, to:

  • Increase understanding of the kinds of support that young people need to find sustainable, empowering employment and create their own businesses

  • Demonstrate successful approaches to providing this support, through entrepreneur training programmes and market-led courses run by Vocational Training Institutes

  • Celebrate and highlight successful young entrepreneurs from Uganda and around the world.

This meeting will use the findings of a new global youth-led research report, From Rhetoric to Action, combined with results from a highly successful employability and entrepreneurship programme in Northern Uganda, funded by the UK government’s Department for International Development, to illustrate how NGOs and investors can improve the livelihoods support that is needed for millions of young people in Uganda.

Changing lives in Northern Uganda

This event, to be attended by 150-180 people, will showcase success of two major programmes:

  • The VSO Youth Development Programme, which aims to equip young people with market-led vocational and life skills to help them gain a sustainable livelihood.
  • The YBI-Enterprise Uganda Northern Uganda Youth Entrepreneurship Programme (NUYEP), which in two years has provided training to 14,000 people, and enabled over 6,000 young people to start up their own business.

An entrepreneur exhibition, showcasing businesses created by Ugandan youth, will also feature in this event: promoting the best of Ugandan youth.

Hosted by Enterprise Uganda & Youth Business International, in partnership with Barclays

The conclusion of The Promise of Youth will see 250 people attend an international awards gala dinner where the seven outstanding finalists of our Young Entrepreneur Awards, from countries such as India, Peru and Sweden, will be recognised for their achievements.

This event has taken place in London, Dubai, Mexico City, Hong Kong and comes for the first time to Africa.
