Summary

Currently, there are no entrepreneurship education programmes at all in small island nations like Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, and little to support them in writing a business and financial plan. These small nations offer few career, income, or job opportunities, making entrepreneurship even more vital. Our staff reports that 35% of business plans supporting loan applications were declined due to quality and nearly 80% of the businesses find it impossible to get access to capital.

Typical business plan tools are merely checklists or standardised templates. Qredits’ advanced e-learning tool can be translated and customised for use in different countries worldwide.

The programme teaches vocational students the different aspects and steps involved with starting a business. The first version, under development for Aruba schools, offers blended learning: a unique combination of interactive offline and online learning including theory, assignments, videos and a workbook overseen by a classroom instructor. Qredits will go on-site to teach instructors how to run the programme and provide the best offline support.

Through the programme, students create a complete business plan and financial plan for year 1 and get to pitch their plans in front of a jury panel. Viable plans may also be eligible for a microcredit loan from Qredits.

The programme is scalable, reputable and sustainable, also because schools have to pay for it. It is easily translated and customised for different target groups and countries. The programme will have social and financial impact on the local economies on the islands (job creation, less people on welfare, economic growth).

We have yet to find anything this comprehensive, especially for smaller, less developed countries. Thus the project has huge potential to scale across the network with easy, inexpensive translation.  Qredits has successfully adapted its e-learning products for different countries (5 languages) already.
