Read moreUnderserved low income young (18-35) entrepreneurs in Mexico struggle to grow and sustain revenue in local markets, often because they cannot invest in a physical place to sell their products.
This Yo Quiero Yo Puedo project provides physical places–small shops or kiosks–in major shopping malls, enabling entrepreneurs to sell and connect to the market, as well as a brand seal or guarantee to facilitate a marketplace and retail sales. Personal business advisors support the entrepreneurs to accelerate learning and reduce risks. Networking and mentoring support are included as well.
Physical spaces at malls in Mexico City, rented by Yo Quiero Yo Puedo, will enable entrepreneurs to interact with customers, sell and learn, without big upfront costs that make it impossible for most. Entrepreneurs will pay 10% for every sale they make, which reduces their risk and makes the project sustainable, with costs and income estimated to sustain this solution. Advisory services are included, helping young entrepreneurs improve their business.
In a pilot, 10 entrepreneurs were charged a fee of 10 USD for two months participation. The entrepreneurs rated the programme as useful, paid for the service, and–most importantly–increased their sales.
The Yo Quiero Yo Puedo model can be replicated or franchised easily in other parts of Mexico and by other YBI members. The YBI Innovation Challenge will help create all the operational processes, manuals and tools for the programme’s easy replication anywhere for these types of entrepreneurs. This will support Yo Quiero Yo Puedo’s DEES project with Accenture, compliments those digital tools, and supports young entrepreneurs in the experimentation that strengthens their business and skills.
Yo Quiero Yo Puedo have previously done test runs with entrepreneurs that validated the solution. They already have experience in the logistics, inventory and selling of products directly to Walmart. They also have successfully organised sales events and entrepreneurship exhibitions, which included inventory and promotion management.
