About Manq'a

Manq’a was founded by Melting Pot1 (a not-for-profit organisation established by Danish food entrepreneur Claus Meyer to improve future opportunities and quality of life for disadvantaged people through food), and ICCO (International development organisation to impact people’s dignity, well being and local economies in 44 countries). Melting Pot and ICCO jointly designed a culinary training programme in La Paz to counter health problems, whilst creating youth employment opportunities.

Manq’a (“food” in Aymara), is a not-for-profit organisation (formed of a collective of cooking schools) that seeks to generate life opportunities by training young, low-income Bolivian youths as chefs and culinary entrepreneurs.

Their aim is to inspire revaluation of local production and promote healthy consumption of food through their trained chefs, whilst at the same time providing the skills for programme graduates to establish successful businesses which bring sustainable income.
