Entrepreneurship within reach: Connecting young people to opportunity

Reports

Insights and lessons from YBI’s 20 years of supporting youth entrepreneurship

This report was commissioned in 2021 by YBI to evidence our 20 years of learning of what works in supporting young entrepreneurs. Dalberg—a global consulting and research firm—researched and authored the report based on analysis of data, third-party sources and evaluations, and interviews with YBI members and entrepreneurs.

The report emphasises the urgent need for youth entrepreneurship. It highlights the rising unemployment rate for young people, which is increasing at a faster rate in low- and middle-income countries, and the worsening effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also highlights how marginalised groups are disproportionately affected.

The report presents an integrated approach to youth entrepreneurship support, consisting of three components: 1. personal development, 2. business development, and 3. enabling environment facilitation.
